East Coast Diesel Assist During Busy Three-month Charter

East Coast Diesel (ECD), part of the OEM group, is celebrating a successful partnership with Commercial Rib Charter (CRC) during a busy three months in Great Yarmouth.

As part of the partnership the recent scope of work included the immediate mobilisation of engineers for on-site fault-finding, engine removal and overhaul, dyno testing and scheduled servicing.

During working on an offshore wind farm, Commercial Rib Charter’s CRC VULCAN suffered a starboard engine fault. Once arriving back in Great Yarmouth on one engine, ECD dispatched its senior engineer and diagnosed a faulty camshaft on its engine (Scania DI16) and within 24 hours the engine was removed and a spare located from the local area.

As well as the engine diagnosis ECD also performed a gearbox change out, fitted new turbos and a full service was carried out on the spare engine. ECD worked through the night to ensure CRC VULCAN was back fully operational and with minimal disruption to CRC’s client.

In the meantime, VULCAN’s original DI16 had its camshaft replaced, the engine serviced and dyno tested in ECD’s in-house facility. When VULCAN was stood down briefly due to poor weather, the original engine was installed back onboard in Great Yarmouth during a seamless eight hour operation, complete with full sea trials and commissioning.

ECD has now been contracted to restore the spare engine up to an even higher standard, with replacement injectors, water pump, pressure-tested heat exchanger, full service and dyno test, giving CRC a top-spec replacement engine on the shelf ready to mobilise.

Stuart Hedges, Director of Commercial Rib Charter commented: “I’d like to pass on my thanks to the team at East Coast Diesel in Great Yarmouth and the OEM Group, who worked quickly and professionally to replace and overhaul these engines for us. Our number one priority at Commercial Rib Charter is to minimise disruption for our clients and ECD went above and beyond to support us with this. We look forward to working with them again in the future.”

OEM Group Director of Operations, Craig Butchart, commented: “The scope of work from the CRC Vulcan showcases the capabilities and level of service ECD strives to offer. We are driven to provide a high level of service to our clients and the quick turnaround in this project was testament to this. It was a pleasure to work with the team at CRC and we look forward to working with them again in the future.”
